Our work priorities 2007-08
Community leaders
Increasingly community leaders need to act as an intermediary between the local community and public, private and voluntary organisations so a wide set of skills are required.
We've made a strong start in engaging community leaders and raising awareness of the vital contribution they can make.
Over the next year, we'll build on these foundations by:
- Working with key partners such as the Community Development Foundation to create programmes and materials to improve the generic skills of community leaders.
- Developing careers materials and giving up to 50 bursaries to help community leaders take our Foundation Degree.
- Developing strategic alliances with the Improvement and Development Agency, Local Government Association, Leadership Centre for Local Government and Local Strategic Partnerships.
- Strengthening public and private sector understanding of factors critical to successful sustainable communities like community cohesion and place-making.
