Innovative Engagement
| Sponsored by Harworth Estates (A Division of UK COAL PLC) | ![]() |
We are looking for innovative ways of engaging local people in decision-making around sustainable communities issues. In particular, we are looking for engagement that is more than consulting or informing: it should have increased the number of people who take part in civic debate. We are looking for new forms of engagement, which might include: tailoring to particular demographic groups (e.g. working parents, under-16s, low-income pensioners); using new technology to create online dialogues; or changes within the organisation initiating the engagement to enable staff to have more contact with citizens and users. The judges will be looking for evidence of building engagement and local ownership as opposed to consulting, increased participation and impact on decision-making.

We are looking for a public-private partnership that has established holistic processes for creating mixed communities that integrate planning and design through to sales and lettings; and beyond to local management and governance. The judges will be looking for evidence of a strong partnership that from the outset looked beyond the end of the design and construction phase to how the community will evolve and be maintained as a sustainable mixed-community as it matures.
