Next steps

The points raised in this consultation will help inform the process of finalising the strategy for developing skills for brownfield re-use. Alongside these consideration, implementation of the National Brownfield Strategy, including the skills strand, is evolving through the establishment of the new Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). Skills are an important part of the new business of HCA and it is expected that HCA will launch the final skills strategy early next year.

Responsibility for ensuring workforce capacity to enable the effective and efficient re-use of brownfield land is not the preserve of the public sector, or of Government. This capacity is also integral to the property industry and all the private and third sector organisations associated with the reuse of brownfield land. Everyone within the workforce is able to take ownership of and contribute to the success of the brownfield workforce. You can view the 16 pledges of action submitted to date which indicate activity already completed, currently underway or planned that falls within recommendations made in the draft Brownfield Skills Strategy.
