Generic Module Toolkit
A toolkit is available to help teachers and trainers structure and deliver the Sustainable Communities Generic Module.
Student workbook
The workbook covers activities that students undertake during the workshops, and individual and group activities they must complete in between. It sets out the learning outcomes associated with generic skills development, and encourages active learning and the use of a learning log. It also enables students to gain experience of working on complex problems with different stakeholders.
Tutor guide
The module can be used as a stand-alone tool or integrated within a broader module on sustainable communities. It can be adapted to suit different audiences including students, practitioners and community groups, and can be used in a ‘real' or scenario context.
The tutor guide provides the teacher with:
- Presentation materials for use in the five workshops
- Outline schedules for the events
- Learning outcomes for each of the workshops
It also provides advice on:
- Application of the module
- New teaching techniques
- The relationship between module outcomes and the requirements of higher education and other curriculum bodies
- Techniques for assessing student and group performance
Resource website
The module website (www.asclearn.org.uk) contains a range of resources relating to the development and interpretation of sustainability indicators and planning processes. It also groups together a wide range of web resources on government policy, codes of practice, best practice and case studies developed by ASC and other agencies.
Students can be referred to the site by the course tutor or use it during independent activity.
