Active Communities Unit (ACU)
The ACUs promotes the development of the voluntary and community sector and encourages people to become actively involved in their communities, particularly in deprived areas. It is responsible for the achievement of the Governments target of increasing voluntary and community sector activity, including increasing community participation, by 5 per cent by 2006
